Children
Volunteer Dental Providers Giving Back to Their Community.
Children
Each year, as part of the ADA Foundation’s Give Kids A Smile program, launched nationally by the American Dental Association in 2003, local volunteer dentists, hygienists, and dental office staff members come together to provide free comprehensive dental treatment to at-risk and uninsured children in our community. To date, hundreds of local underserved children have received free oral health services through this program.
In its 11th year, the Northern Nevada Give Kids A Smile® (GKAS) event is a collaboration of Northern Nevada Dental Health Programs and its Healthy Smile Healthy Child Program, Northern Nevada Dental Society’s Nevada’s New Dentist Committee, Growing Smiles and numerous volunteer dental professionals, volunteers and sponsors.
Due to COVID and the governor’s mandate, we will be coordinating several events throughout the year; children will be seen “by appointment only”. Parents/Guardians must contact us via phone at 775.982.7989 or by email at monica.vazquez@renown.org to schedule their appointment.
When:
What: Dental screenings, fluoride varnish, preventative and oral health education
Who: At-risk, uninsured and underserved children in need of dental care
This event would not be possible without the generosity and dedication of its volunteers. Whether you’re a dentist, dental assistant, dental hygienist, dental office staff member, or someone else interested in volunteering, your skills and help are needed. To volunteer, please contact Sandra Gutierrez at 775.982.7989 or Sandra.gutierrez@nndhp.org.
*Volunteer time qualifies for CEU credits
Much of the success of this event is due to its wonderful sponsors. Last year GKAS was able to provide close to $65,000 worth of dental treatment to 105 children!
We would like to continue to grow this event and help even more children each year. Your contribution to help us do that is greatly appreciated.
